Grip is essential on the deck of a boat: it varies depending on the materials, flexibility and design of a shoe's outsole. Boat shoes must also provide protection, comfort and support to the sides of your feet. Choose shoes according to your use and the qualities you require. Remember: always wear shoes when sailing, and especially when anchoring and mooring.

CHOICE CRITERIA

GRIP
Boat shoes must have a non-slip sole. Rubber provides better grip, and a grooved sole will drain water away. The softer the sole, the better the grip.

PROTECTION/SUPPORT
Good reinforcements at the heel, a wrap-round sole and full length lacing all provide support for your feet. Reinforcements where the shoe wears out soonest extend durability.
COMFORT
A padded tongue and an EVA midsole (which provides cushioning) will ensure comfort. The shoes should allow water to drain away and should dry quickly. Hydrophobic synthetic fabrics dry faster than leather. Some products have drainage holes to evacuate water more quickly.
The EASYDRY label indicates an exclusive water drainage system through the sole.
